Yellow Finch Bird House Plans
In this is article I’ll try to describe how I’m attempting to attract yellow finches to nest in my back yard. I noticed that there were lots of searches for Yellow Finch Bird House Plans in Google and wondered how many people thought that a yellow finch would nest in a bird house. It’s been my experience and from what I have read from others that the yellow finch does not typically nest in a bird house.
For the last few years I have been trying to attract yellow finches to nest in my back yard but so far I haven’t had much luck. I found it quite hard to lure them into nesting in the typical birdhouses because they like the open air and are scared of the closed in bird houses. They do love my finch feeders and come in droves to feed.
My yellow finch bird house plans started with a little research to find out where and how the yellow finch likes to nests. After doing some reading I found that they like to build their homes in shrubs, bushes and small trees that are not in a shaded location. I have a small bush at my home that is outside my office window that is always full of finches throughout the year but I haven’t noticed any yellow finches.
My plan is to place a finch feeder close to that bush and hope to attract a yellow finch into nesting there. The bush is not far off the ground and I read somewhere that they like to be up as high as 8 to 10 feet off the ground but other sources say they like their nest much lower to the ground. Since this is the only suitable bush in my yard I’m going to give it a try. If you don’t have a bush in your backyard you could attempt using the yellow finch bird house plans over at eHow.com. They suggest using a milk jug and dowels to create perches inside the milk jug. I’m not sure how much luck you would have with it but the finch would have more light inside a milk jug than a birdhouse.
That’s my plan for attracting the yellow finch to nest in my yard. Wish me luck and I’ll post on any success! Please feel free to post any successes you have had attracting the yellow finch to nest in your yard.
